Fearing the extinction of traditional Hawaiian culture, artist Herb Kane envisioned a traditional Polynesian voyaging canoe sailing the Pacific 600 years after they were last seen.  With the help of many dedicated individuals, including such legendary names as Mau Piailug, Nainoa Thompson and Eddie Aikau, the vision became a reality.  The first voyage of Hokule'a t Tahiti in 1976 created a resurgence of culture, tradition and pride in Hawaii.  In 2017, Hokule'a completed a multi-year worldwide Malama Honua (caring for island earth) voyage.  Hokule'a continues to connect with cultures around the world, spreading the message of respect for indigenous cultures and environmental consciousness.

Scott's paper sculptures feature layers of intricately cut and pressed archival paper to achieve a stunning three-dimensional effect.
