Hawaiian Royal Poinciana Wood Bowl, signed L. Bailey, ca. mid-20th century.
Size: 6.875" diameter x 2.75" high
A beautiful hand-turned bowl from wood of the royal poinciana - a tree native to Madagascar that has been introduced into tropical and sub-tropical regions worldwide, including Hawai'i. Surprisingly lightweight, the gorgeous vessel displays a narrow, ring-form foot and smooth walls that gracefully rise to an annular rim. Note how the natural woodgrain surface of swirling almond, vanilla, and butterscotch hues with light grey striations nicely compliments the vessel-s elegant form. Provenance: private collection, Newport Beach, CA.
