Hawaiian koa, a member of the Acacia family, is a native forest tree unique to Hawai'i. At one time, it was only allowed to be owned by Hawaiian Royalty. It is one of the most expensive woods on earth, due to its rarity and beauty. Koa varies widely in coloration, ranging from pale blonde to deep chocolate brown. It is a medium density hardwood which takes on a three dimensional quality when rubbed with oil. Avoid direct sunlight and excessive heat.
